The National Testing Agency (NTA) conducts National Eligibility Test (NET) to determine eligibility for lectureship and for the award of Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) for Indian nationals in order to ensure minimum standards for the entrants in the teaching profession and research. Before Dec 2014, The UGC Bureau was the authority to conduct the NET test twice in a year.
