The new year could bring cheer to research scholars in India with their fellowships likely to cross the Rs 40,000 per month mark for the first time.
The government assured the researchers of a “positive development” very soon regarding their demand for hike in fellowship on Wednesday.
Human resource development minister Prakash Javadekar assured scholars that the hike will be more than the last hike.
After the minister’s announcement, the protest by scholars, which has been on since September, was put on hold. Some 1.25 lakh research scholars have been demanding a hike in their fellowships.
According to Javadekar, “The government is working on the hike and we are positive that the hike will be more than what was granted last time by our government.
